LIGHT OIL RUST PREVENTIVE AND SLUSHING COMPOUND FOR SHEET STEEL, TUBING AND WIRE

 

Houghton's Rust Veto 210 has a long record of successful use as a preservative on flat or round wire stock and tube stock.  It can be applied by brush, spray, or dip methods and leaves a light oil film on parts or equipment.  Excess material drains rapidly from treated surfaces because of the preventive's light viscosity.

 

NON-SOLVENT

 

This rust preventive does not contain solvents.  This reduces its flammability hazard and eliminates the need for costly hoods and related equipment for exhausting volatile fumes.  The film can be left on treated parts, where subsequent lubrication with a light oil will be required, or it can be easily removed by conventional solvent or alkaline cleaners.

 

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

 

In a steel mill application, Rust Veto 210 is being used on smooth finished steel tubing which was rusting during regular weekend shutdowns.

 

The preventive is applied to the tubing immediately after welding and before cutoff.  A flow method is used to coat the O.D., and the I.D. of the tube is sprayed.  Excess material is removed by mechanical wipers.

 

This treatment is used with complete success on all tubing which goes into warehouse stock as well as furniture tubing and fabricated tubular parts which are being produced by the mill.

 

In another mill, Rust Veto 210 is used as a low cost rust preventive for the oiling and protection of pickled sheet stock during shipment.  In this mill, Rust Veto 210 is applied to the sheet in a dip tank.

 

Rust Veto 210 has been used successfully in wire mills on both flat and round wire.  In most of these applications the product is applied to loosely wound coils in a dip tank.  After excess material has drained from the coils, they are moved to storage bins or prepared for shipment to the customer.
